Leon Weissberg, PhD

Rabbi / Dr.

Rabbi/Dr. Weissberg holds four advanced degrees including a Doctorate in Education and a Masters in Jewish Studies.  He has been the Executive of the Jewish Education Commission in Boca, as well as the head of Donna Klein Jewish Academy. Currently he adjuncts at Broward College and teaches in the Melton program in Boca Raton and Aventura. Most notably Dr. Weissberg has been the US Southern Region Director of the March of the Living having led over 2500 Jewish & non-Jewish teens & adults to Poland & Israel over the past 30 years.

Beam up for a three-week exploration into the Jewish themes woven through your favorite science fiction and fantasy stories. From time travel to telepathy, clones to capes, this class takes on the big questions:


• Can an alien be Jewish?
• What does Jewish tradition say about cloning and artificial life?
• Can someone like Darth Vader truly repent?
• Is it ever ethical for a superhero to kill the villain?

From Shadows of Antisemitism to a Changing Europe

A brief look at how centuries of antisemitism culminated in the Final Solution—and how the Jewish absence left a cultural void in Europe. Today, that void is evolving amid new immigration patterns and the gradual Islamization of parts of the continent, raising complex questions about identity, memory and transformation.
